About the Trust

An autonomous institution in service of the Hungarian public.

Established by parliamentary act in 1991, the Magyar Örökség Trust administers public and partner funds dedicated to the preservation of national heritage and the long-term development of Hungarian communities.

Mission

We safeguard the cultural, historical and natural patrimony of Hungary, while financing programmes that strengthen rural life, widen educational opportunity and support innovation. We work under strict standards of transparency, independence and fiscal discipline.

Governance

The Trust is overseen by an eleven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the National Assembly. Operations are led by a Director General and audited annually by the State Audit Office and an independent international auditor.

Strategic Priorities 2025–2030

  • Restoration of 200 endangered heritage sites by 2030.
  • Doubling rural infrastructure disbursements year on year.
  • Full digitisation of the National Heritage Registry.
  • Expansion of the Youth Scholarship Programme to 25,000 recipients annually.
  • Carbon-neutral operations across all owned facilities by 2028.
